Tropical Storm Ingrid

Early Friday morning, September 13, Tropical Depression Ten was upgraded to tropical storm status, becoming Tropical Storm Ingrid.

The storm, located 40 miles east northeast of Veracruz, reached maximum sustained winds of 45 miles per hour and is expected to strengthen into the weekend. Currently the storm is stationary with little movement expected throughout the day. Ingrid should begin to turn north northwest late Friday evening, possibly reaching the Mexican coast over the weekend.

A tropical storm warning has been placed on the areas between Coatzacoalcos and Cabo Rojo, meaning tropical storm conditions are expected in this area within the next 36 hours. A tropical storm watch for the areas north of Cabo Rojo to La Pesca, Mexico, meaning that tropical storm conditions are possible in this area within the next 48 hours.

The stationary storm, located in the Bay of Campeche, is expected to dump large amounts of rain over eastern Mexico over the next few days, possibly producing 10-15 inches of rain and in some areas up to 25 inches of rain. As a result, flash floods and mudslides may occur.

Tropical storm force winds currently extend towards the center of the storm up to 35 miles and these winds are predicted to reach the Mexican coast within the tropical storm warning areas later Friday, September 13.
