Tropical Storm Manuel

A new tropical storm has formed in the eastern Pacific on Friday, September 13 that has been dubbed Tropical Storm Manuel.

The new storm is located 150 miles south southwest of Zihatanejo, Meixico and 165 miles south of Lazaro Cardenas, Mexico. Manuel has reached maximum sustained winds of 40 miles per hour with an expected increase over the weekend. The tropical storm is moving west northwest at 6 miles per hour with a gradual turn north northwest on Saturday.

The Mexican government has altered previously issued tropical storm warnings, now placing a warning on the areas from Acapulco to Punta San Telmo.  This area should expect tropical storm conditions over the next day or so, possibly beginning mid-Saturday, as the storm nears this area by late Saturday or early Sunday, September 15.

Manuel is predicted to unload 10 to 15 inches of rain over Oaxaca and Guerrero, with a possible 20 inches of rainfall in some areas, causing flash flooding and mudslides in mountainous areas.

Tropical storm force winds extend 25 miles from the center of the storm.
