Tropical Storm Boris forms off Coast of Mexico
Tropical Storm Boris brought heavy rains to Mexico’s Pacific coast, forcing the evacuation of hundreds in areas prone to floods and mudslides.
TS Boris formed Tuesday afternoon off the coast of Oaxaca and Chiapas, reaching maximum winds of 40 mph and bringing rock and mudslides to some roads. Boris continues to move north at 5 mph toward the narrow strip of Mexico between the Pacific and the Gulf of Mexico. Forecasters say Boris may bring as much as 30 inches of rain over the next few days, causing deadly floods and mudslides.
A tropical storm warning is in effect in southern Mexico from Salina Cruz to Mexico’s border with Guatemala, and evacuations are expected to continue.
